Social Studies & Science Teacher 2024-2025
Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS)
is seeking an innovative, passionate Social Studies/Science Teacher
who possesses an unwavering commitment to our mission and the willingness to go above & beyond to meet the needs of students, families and staff. The Social Studies/Science teacher will teach Middle School Social Studies, Middle School Science, and American History/Civics to High Schoolers. Please note that while this is a middle-school-level opening, our instructional scope is designed to meet children where they are and sometimes includes Kindergarten-level material. Most Fugees Academy students begin middle school performing well below grade level due to interrupted schooling. Our flexible and differentiated instruction is a critical part of helping them build the necessary skills to reach grade level by the time they begin high school. The Social Studies/Science teacher will be part of a team that is committed to learning and growing together through a process of collaboration and coaching.
Required Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of full-time classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
- Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, strict, orderly classroom environment
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement and believe that all students can achieve
- A belief that building deep, authentic relationships with students and families is a priority
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required
- Experience with a research-based literacy program preferred but not required
- GaPSC Certification in English preferred but not required
- Special Education (general curriculum) certification and experience a plus
- Previous experience working with English Learners is a plus
